The area was even more beautiful before the dam was constructed. Any sensible tourist authority would set out marked walks around the area which (in theory) would encourage tourists. It was, as you say, creepy. Worth a google, this place. It's unique in Western Europe, apparently. The photos, as ever, are brilliant.
