Well it can't be all that big a news cause it didn't make the 'News of the World'(The source of all the important stuff). They must be trying to flog more records before their record company dumps them!!

I can't see why this is news per se - I may have been walking around in a reality of my own personal making, but I'm sure when they broke on the pop scene however long ago it was, someone mentioned to me he was the gay one and that was why the other small one Shane dowhatsit was the front guy - Mark Feehily was the better singer of the pair of them by a margin but marketing considerations yada yada.

Am I really seven years ahead of the Sun on this one?

One guy I know after coming out to his mother was told the news was like a death in the family and references his homosexuality as his “condition.
Ahh modern, educated Ireland eh?

I’m quite astounded that The Sun (and I admit to not having read the article) didn’t make some vile attempt to blow it even more out of proportion than they already did. I will however bite my tongue and hold off praising them until I see what sadistic follow up stories they come out with. No doubt within weeks we’ll have pictures of him with his partner blazing across the front pages.

As for it being a requirement to have a gay guy in a boyband, well, how many straight guys would be willing to sing campy pop songs and dance in a fabulous fashion?

Aside from being willing, how many straight guys would be able to dance in a fabulous fashion? Hands by the sides, hopping around like an addict in a severe low is my fashion (but at least I think it’s fabulous).

As with all things, I reserve the right to rant further on this exact subject in the future; that is as soon as The Sun decides to print more utter garbage.

Is he gay and dying?

One guy I know after coming out to his mother was told the news was like a death in the family and references his homosexuality as his "condition". Others had parents react by believing that they would naturally without exception get AIDS and die a horrible death within 10 years. I kid you not!

Role model? Is he gay and dying and a superhero?

He's probably afraid some militant gay groups will latch on to him and be their figurehead for the gaying up of the nation. At least he's a better role model than Jack in Will and Grace or Graham Norton. One of these days the role model for a cloested gay kid might just be John the Accountant or Tim the Engineer. Ordinary people who go about their ordinary lives and just happen to fall in love with people of the same sex.

I do wonder though were the Sun going to out him and that's why he came out. That's what the press did to Stephen Gately.

As for it being a requirement to have a gay guy in a boyband, well, how many straight guys would be willing to sing campy pop songs and dance in a fabulous fashion?

While they give the stats a being 1 in 10 of the population being homosexual, I would think in the pop business it is far higher. It is probably less than 10% in other industries, like er, gynaecology.
