[...] Wow! Despite the awful weather today, and the long traffic jams outside several towns we had a great time at the Red Bull Air Race in Cashel! Here’s a few photos from the event. Ryan has some amazing photos from the opposite side of the valley! [...]

Here's a few of my shots. I took 400 shots today, but conditions were terrible! We ended up on the hill of Cashel right acrss from you so I was zoomed to 300mm almost the whole time. The 75-300 lens is *terrible* at focusing, hunting all the time at high zoom so I had to switch it to manual focus, set the aperture so I'd have a decent amount of DOF and hope for the best.
Great write up, and brill photos, you did a great job! I'll have to update my post with a bit more commentary tomorrow when I'm more awake!

We arrived at half one in the car park which was five euro for the pleasure of parking in a GAA field. We decided to pass on the shuttle “fast as lighting bus, there was only one in action which could fit 25-30 people max and with a queue of over 80 it didn’t really add up.

The walk wasn’t too bad up to the main field although it was pissing at the time (Good ole Murphy – Ireland gets an event like this and the weather decides to go back to normal). Once in the main section we looked over to the Castle and noticed people sitting on the hill with a great view, so we decided to walk down the other side and go up to that spot, once there we were shouted at telling us we needed some sort of special ticket. So back we went, at this point it was five to 2 and we watched the countdown clock which had 5 minutes of a countdown, it came with a big cheer and went with a mass boo… we grabbed some chips and burgers which weren’t too bad, one good thing I noticed was a hard working guy walking around picking up rubbish, the only person who actually did his job.

Crowd Control as you say was non existent especially on the way out, too many people at once + one small gap of an exit = mayhem.

But finally when half 4 came I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the show, the pilots were all excellent (they had to wait in the rain too and travel to a new airfield to launch which was much further away so that’s why they just did the one turn) and once they completed their lap they did do some wicked tricks.
